The Centre de Recherche Interdisciplinaire sur les Modèles Esthétiques et Littéraires (CRIMEL-EA 3311, Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne), the Dipartimento di Studi Linguistici e Letterari (Università degli Studi di Padova) and the Gruppo di Studi sul Cinquecento Francese are organizing a summer school in Padova in July 2014. Its main aim is to offer young European researchers an opportunity to explore one of the major dialectical aspects of literary evolution, in creative writing as well as in critical thought. It will also allow them to share their knowledge with fellow students and senior academics, in an international and intellectually stimulating context.
The following topic has been selected by the organizing board: The dialectics of old and new in literary creation, from the Middle Ages to Romanticism. It is deliberately broad, in order to bring together specialists from different periods and varied cultural and linguistic fields.
A series of specific aspects (textual, generic, historical, critical) of the general theme will be dealt with, in several periods and various national literatures.
The following scientific activities will be organized : lectures by the academic team, presentations by junior researchers, each including time for discussion and exchanges. Two collaborative workshops are also planned, one on parody, the other on the rejuvenation of mythical characters. Cultural activities are scheduled to enable participants to discover Padova’s cultural heritage, including a visit of Villa Pisani in the neighbouring town of Strà.
The summer school will be held at the university of Padova, starting on July 7th. It is open to 14 young researchers (either in the course of preparing a doctoral thesis or having completed their PhD after 2011), in the fields of European literatures, from the Middle Ages to Romanticism. The teaching team is composed of ten French and Italian academics.
Junior researchers who wish to apply to this summer school are expected to submit an oral paper (30 min) on a topic clearly linked to the general theme. The contribution to organizational costs is 50€. Full board will be provided.
This summer school is part of the “Grand Accord” for scientific collaboration between the universities of Reims and Padova.
Application deadline is the 9th of May 2014.
